Gurudev’s Birthday

This weekend we celebrated the 90th birthday of my guru, Yogi Amrit Desai, whom I call Gurudev which means beloved guru.

This man has forever changed my life. Before I met him, I lived in the darkest depression for 30 years. There were definite moments of joy and peace but they didn’t have the power to dispel that ever-present darkness that clouded all I saw.

Gurudev and the teachers around him gave me the understanding—knowledge plus experience—to live free of that darkness. On January 15th, 2009, a simple event brought some of that temporary peace.

Shortly after that, I began practicing Yoga as taught by Gurudev. Nearly six years later, I realized that I hadn’t experienced any depression from that day in January 2009.

Now, 13 years later, I continue to live a life free of depression but, the life I live today is no longer one defined by freedom from depression; rather, the life I live is one defined by freedom to enthusiastically love life.

JAI GURUDEV!

Below are some of the pictures that my wonderful wife, Shanna, took during this gala weekend. You can view all the pictures she took on Facebook.

Enjoy the Adventure!
