Prescription Meditation

If you’ve been reading Facebook recently, you might have seen an article shared from the Daily Mail about meditation.  The headline reads, Meditation ‘works just as well as anti-depressants’: Half an hour a day offers as much relief as tablets.

Meditation for just half an hour can relieve depression as much as popping a pill, claim researchers.

They found regular meditation could also relieve anxiety, pain and stress.

. . . .

Study leader Dr Madhav Goyal, an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, said ‘A lot of people have this idea that meditation means sitting down and doing nothing.

‘But that’s not true. Meditation is an active training of the mind to increase awareness, and different meditation programmes approach this in different ways.’

One commenter on the article said, “It’s harder thank you think to get yourself into the meditative state . . . .”  Unfortunately this person is unfamiliar with Yoga Nidra.  Walk in, lie down, listen to some simple instructions and 30 to 40 minutes later you walk out feeling completely refreshed.

If you haven’t experienced Yoga Nidra, please come to the Pleasant Grove Community Center tonight for Yoga Nidra at 8 pm.  If you cannot attend, go to the Downloads page and download a session or two for free and start experiencing Yoga Nidra today!
