We’ve all heard the phrase, “Are you going to come quietly or do we have to do this the hard way?” Can you see your favorite movie scene where something like this happens? I’ll bet you can! Mine is when Dumbledore faces down the Ministry of Magic.
This shows up in everyday life too. You can let life guide you or you can let it drag you, kicking and screaming; either way, you’ll end up where you need to be. It’s not always easy to know which is happening and, often, it seems that both happen at the same time. The last two weeks have provided a healthy dose of both.
There’s a wonderful story of someone walking along the beach. In the distance, they see someone standing at the water’s edge with a bar of soap and a towel. Later, they walk by that same place and the person is still standing at the water’s edge. “What are you doing?” they ask. “I’m waiting for the waves to stop so I can take a bath.” For years, I have wanted to focus only on teaching yoga. I’ve been waiting for the right time to leave my day job and teach. Classes, workshops, retreats, books, videos, audio, all of it, I wanted to teach yoga. I wanted to help others find the freedom that I have BUT I’ve been waiting for the stars to align to do it. I’ve been waiting for the waves to stop but, two weeks ago, life tired of waiting and pushed me into the ocean.
July 10th, 2018 I was informed that my 22 years of service were no longer needed. While I’m not searching for sympathy, that was definitely a moment of crisis for me. Anxiety and doubt filled the next three days but they were also sprinkled with bright glimmers of hope. Those glimmers of hope where the moments when I turned away from fear and trusted life. Now, there is no fear, there is only trust and letting the ocean current carry me.
There will soon be more classes at Bhakti House as well as our recovery programs but, more immediately, I’ve started writing again. The first draft of my first book is already complete but it’s not supposed to be the first book I publish. The one I started planning on Monday and start writing today is the first book.
An Invitation
I want to invite you to join me on this writing journey. Today is the first day of my writing journey. I’ll use Twitter to help share what’s happening with the book each day. I’ve been using Chandler Bolt’s 90 day writing program from Published! (you can get the book for free). Today I begin the 30 day to first draft phase. Watch Twitter to find out how today’s writing went!
